history of the show
Hunter Valley Boutique Winemaker’s Show started in 1989 with just eleven wineries, crushing up to 100 tonnes.
In 2023 the Show had 320 wines exhibited for judging. 2024 is our 34th show, with the judging taking place in September, led by our Chief Judge, Neil McGuigan.
The show is exclusive to the Hunter Valley with a long history of esteemed Judges including Neil McGuigan, Mark Richardson, Rauri Donkin, Nicole Gow, Will Figueria, Jade Hafey, Jane Hoppe, Connie Griffiths and Brett Woodward.
Our Show is presented by the Hunter River Agricultural and Horticultural Association and celebrates the highest quality wines produced from grapes grown in the Hunter Valley.
The aim of the show is:
- A level playing field for the smaller guys.
- Improve the standard of winemaking in the Hunter.
- Showcase quality wines and support boutique winemakers' marketing efforts.
- Build the capacity of our young winemakers and judges for a continued bright future of winemaking in our region.
- Celebrate, network and taste the 2023 medal-winning wines.
